Torture allegations investigated

By Andy Davies

Updated on 26 March 2009

In an unprecedented move, the government asks the police to investigate their brother officers at MI5 in the case of a former Guantanamo Bay detainee

Binyam Mohammed, who was released from detention last month, alleges that he was tortured with the collusion of the British state.

It is an allegation that the government always denied, but today the attorney general has asked the Metropolitan Police to investigate.

The police and the secret services have worked closely together on counter terrorism in the past.

Interview: Mohammed's lawyer Clive Stafford-Smith
