Thousands come to see Obama and say 'We were there'

Before sunrise tens of thousands of people were already making their way to Washington, eager for a ringside seat to history.

They came by foot, by bus and poured onto underground trains.

There were those, too, who had travelled from far beyond these shores, braving the cold and the crowds and the many hours of waiting just to say, "We were there".
