The US president-elect warns that without a massive stimulus package, the dire economic situation could deteriorate even further. Sarah Smith reports.
"We must act boldly and act now". That was the call from president-elect Barack Obama today as he made an impassioned plea for a huge stimulus package to kick-start the American economy.
In his most high-profile speech since the election, Obama said the dire economic situation "could become dramatically worse" if the US did not act to pump more than $700bn into the US economy over the next two years.
Congressional leaders said they would begin work on a bill as soon as possible which would combine tax cuts with massive investment in public infrastructure.
