The Great (War) Escape
Updated on 25 September 2008
A new exhibition celebrates a great escape from a German POW camp - during not the second, but the first world war.
When you think of The Great Escape, the 1963 Steve McQueen film is what inevitably springs to mind.
But there was another great escape by Allied soldiers from a German prisoner-of-war camp around 20 years earlier, during world war one.
A new exhibition at the Imperial War Museum focuses on the great war, with artefacts revealing personal tales from the conflict.
