Targeting the Taliban: more deaths in Afghanistan, but who is the enemy?

By Alex Thomson

Updated on 17 September 2008

Channel 4 News has an exclusive insight into the Taliban, the men American and British soldiers are fighting in Afghanistan.

The report comes on a day when four US-led troops and an Afghan national have been killed in eastern Afghanistan, most likely by Taliban fighters.

The nationality of the soldiers has not been revealed yet, but the number of Americans killed in Afghanistan this year has already surpassed the record 111 deaths in 2007.

Afghan civilians have also been killed in American air strikes and during a visit to the country the US defence secretary apologised and said there would be better targeting of Taliban militants.

The film maker Mehran Bozorgnia travels south from the Afghan capital Kabul to Taliban regional headquarters near Kandahar.
