Taliban still 'wreaking havoc'

By Jonathan Rugman

Updated on 06 February 2008

More troops are needed for Afghanistan, Britain and America have agreed, as the US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice admitted that the Taliban were still 'wreaking havoc'.

Dr Rice was in London for talks with the foreign secretary David Miliband. He insisted Britain already had enough troops in the country to carry out its mission.

But as Gordon Brown joined the calls to share the burden, the pressure is increasing on nations like France and Germany, which have refused to send combat troops to the more dangerous south.
