Super Tuesday voting begins

By Keme Nzerem, Jon Snow

Updated on 05 February 2008

Voters on America's east coast have started voting for their preferred candidate at the start of Super Tuesday, the biggest day in the presidential nominating race so far.

A total of 24 States hold primary or caucus ballots that will account for over half the delegates a candidate will need to secure their party's nomination.

In the Republican race, polls put Senator John McCain well ahead of his rival Mitt Romney while Senators Clinton and Obama are neck and neck in the Democrat race.
