Snowmail: UN convoy to Congo

Updated on 02 November 2008

By Samira Ahmed

On tonight's show...

Hello. Samira here with the lookahead to the bulletin at 6.45pm tonight.

Jonathan Miller has the latest on the humanitarian crisis in Congo, reporting from Goma tonight.

After Foreign Secretary David Miliband's visit with his French counterpart, Jane Dodge has been looking at the prospect of international help on a scale and in a time-frame big and fast enough to help the thousands in desperate need.

The UN is mobilising an aid convoy; but the challenge will be to find a peace deal, now that forces loyal to the rebel General Luarent Nkunda control large regions around Goma.

Grand Prix results - live

On air we should have the result of the Brazilian Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton (starting in fourth) hopes to become the youngest ever Formula One drivers' champion.

Last weekend on the campaign trail

Sarah Smith reports from Washington on the final weekend in the US presidential election campaign. The Democrats aren't assuming anything in public, but with John McCain following Sarah Palin on the satirical TV show Saturday Night Live, it doesn't look like there's much real cheer in the Republicans' camp.

'Allo 'Allo!

And another radio phone joke makes the headlines. Though the ease with which Sarah Palin fell for the dodgy accent and seal-hunting enthusiasm of the Canadian presenter, who rang her up pretending to be Nicholas Sarkozy, suggests the real scandal may be her credulity. See you tonight.
