Snowmail: bombs still hitting Gaza

Updated on 30 December 2008

By Kylie Morris

Tonight, we'll hear from Israeli cabinet minister Isaac Herzog on why, despite calls for a ceasefire, bombs are still falling on Gaza.

What is the endgame? What military objective would a ground invasion serve, or is that threat merely IDF sabre-rattling?

And, we're hoping to hear from Hamas, out of Lebanon. By continuing to fire rockets, isn't the Islamic government of the Gaza Strip sacrificing the lives of civilians for its own ambitions?

Lindsey Hilsum will have the latest from the region - and from Paris, where EU foreign ministers are holding an emergency meeting.

PLUMMETING ECONOMY

Also tonight - new figures show housing prices plummeting, new exchange rates show the pound plummeting, new industrial predictions show employment plummeting - but is this conjunction of crises really that new?

Today the national archives revealed the tensions in government 30 years ago when another Labour prime minister contemplated an economic emergency.

And we have the latest from Anfield where a statement from Liverpool FC expresses full support in club captain Steven Gerrard - despite his being charged this morning in connection with a nightclub brawl.
