'Scores of Iranian protesters die'
Updated on 21 June 2009
As the diplomatic rift with the west deepens in Iran, opposition sources claim that scores of protesters have been killed in clashes with riot police throughout the country. Lindsey Hilsum reports.

This is contrary to reports on state television that around 10 people were killed yesterday, when police clashed with protestors in the Iranian capital Tehran.
Iranian authorities condemned the protesters as "terrorists" and rioters, as President Ahmadinejad told Britain and America to stop interfering in his country's internal affairs.
But more moderate clerics have stepped up their criticism of the regime, warning the crackdown could have "dangerous consequences".
Our report contains some distressing images.
