Russian and Georgian forces continue to battle in South Ossetia

Fighting between Georgian and Russian forces over Georgia's breakaway region of South Ossetia has continued.
Russia has made significant advances amid fears that a second front is opening up in Georgia's other breakaway region of Abkhazia.
Georgia insisted it had withdrawn its forces from South Ossetia as Russia continued to attack Georgian positions along the border, and took control of the regional capital Tskhinvali.
Georgia claimed Russian forces advanced further inside its territory, towards the city of Gori, which Georgia pledged to defend and the conflict spread to the capital Tblisi as Russia bombed a military airfield.
Georgia also says it's being drawn in spreading to its other breakaway region of Abkhazia as separatist forces moved into the Georgian-controlled Kodori Gorge strategic pass.
