Barack Obama calls an emergency economic meeting as President Bush warns of the tough road ahead.

The transfer of power to the new Obama administration has already begun in Washington.

In front of the capitol they are already starting to build the stage for the inauguration.

The transition team is up and running, and key appointments are being made. Barack Obama's first press conference is due tomorrow after an emergency meeting of his economic team. He then heads to Washington for talks with President Bush.

After the euphoric victory celebrations, the mood has turned sombre. President Bush has warned of the risk of terrorists exploiting this period of change and of more grim economic news.

Palin: from maverick to scapegoat
