Thousands of people from the world's largest community of Tibetan exiles stage a parallel relay as the official Olympic torch travels through New Delhi.

Meanwhile, 15,000 police and commandos have been mobilised in India to guard the Olympic torch on the latest stage of its journey around the world.

The protestors want to call attention to China's crackdown in their homeland, calling the torch a "flame of shame".

Reports suggest 180 protesters have been detained by Indian police.

The relay route was sealed off and a cordon was placed around the centre of the city.

The route was also shortened, with each of the 70 torchbearers carrying the flame a few yards.
