Tear gas, shots in the air and arrests: Iranian riot police have moved to break up protests in the capital Tehran, the first since the mass demonstrations two weeks ago.

Reports from the city said around 250 people gathered near the university to commemorate the 10th anniversary of violent student unrest, despite a ban on public gatherings.

It is the worst unrest in Tehran since last month's mass protests over the disputed Iranian presidential elections.
