Presidential hopefuls trade blows
Updated on 08 October 2008
The financial crisis took centre stage at the latest clash between presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain.
At a town hall-style debate in Nashville, Barack Obama pinned the blame for the sliding economy firmly on the failed policies of the Republicans.
Senator McCain accused the Democratic candidate of planning tax increases, but Senator Obama said the crisis was the result of the failed economic policies pursued by the Republicans.
Two panels judged Mr Obama the winner. He is also developing a substantial opinion poll lead just a month before the presidential election.
