Pakistan: free and fair elections?

Free, fair and held on time, that's the pledge from President Pervez Musharraf ahead of next week's parliamentary elections in Pakistan.

Political opponents have accused him of planning to rig the election so his party can stay in power but Musharraf has vowed to 'deal sternly' with anyone who tries to disrupt the voting process, which starts on Monday.

He's also questioned the accuracy of opinion polls that claim that support for his ruling party is at an all-time low.
