TV host Oprah Winfrey hails Barack Obama's victory.

Eleven months after controversially breaking her own apolitical stance and publicly backing Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey enthusiastically welcomed his victory.

The queen of US television said: "This is what we wanted and worked for."

"This is a moment not just for Barack and his family - it's a moment for America. It says there won't just be red states and blue states, it means the colour purple rules."

"It also means that for every time Barack has spoken about red states and blue states we've all understood that he meant black, people and white people and red people and yellow people and a united states of America.

"For the first time we're going to experience that in only a way we could of dreamed of."
