Obama's last hurdle?

By Sarah Smith

Barack Obama says the democratic nomination is "within reach", but can Clinton steal the show?

It wasn't quite a declaration of victory - but Barack Obama says the democratic nomination is now "within reach" after a convincing win in the latest primary in Oregon.

Senator Obama now has more than half the available elected delegates - leaving Hillary Clinton's fast fading hopes in the hands of a small group of still undecided super delegates.

But that hasn't deterred the former first lady, who vowed again to fight to the finish.

Delegates need to win: 2026

Obama:

1649 delegates pledged

307 super delegates pledged

1956 total

Clinton:

1497 delegates pledged

279 super delegates pledged

1776 total

The delegate race

A total of 2026 pledged and super delegates are needed at the convention in August.

Barack Obama now has 1649 pledged delegates to add to his estimated 307 superdelegates who've already expressed their support bringing his total to 1956.

Of the 70 left to clinch the nomination Obama says he expects to pick up 45 from remaining contests leaving him only another 25 super delegates to convince.

Despite winning Kentucky last night Clinton is trailing with 1497 pledged delegates and an estimated 279 super delegates putting her at least 250 off the target at 1776.

She may find it hard to make up numbers with super delegates as so many are from states where Obama has won the primary.
