Obama: so hip it hurts

By Felicity Spector

Updated on 19 June 2007

OK, so he's so hip it hurts. Barack Obama has proved his all round sex appeal by inspiring a rather risque tribute song now making a splash on the internet.

Described as a "political slow jam'", I Got A Crush On Obama is virtually purred into the microphone by a lustful admirer called Obamagirl, complete with campaign T-shirt to show off her - ahem - finest assets.

From pole dancing on the subway to donning a bikini to shimmy up against a barechested photo of her political hero, Obamagirl certainly isn't shy of revealing her political affiliations.

"You seemed to float onto the floor/Democratic convention 2004/I never wanted anybody more/than I want you," she croons. You can see the whole thing here.

The singer herself - model-slash-actress Amber Lee Ettinger - says she fell in love with the song, adding that the attention has been "really, really crazy".

From pole dancing on the subway to donning a bikini to shimmy up against a barechested photo of her political hero, Obamagirl certainly isn't shy of revealing her political affiliations.

Her past work includes posing for Maxim, FHM and Elle magazines. Although she says the senator is "a nice guy", she still isn't sure whether Obama will actually get her vote.

The Obama campaign team says it had nothing to do with the video - which had taken it completely by surprise. And as an exercise in media manipulation and securing the requisite 15 minutes of fame for its creators, it's been a runaway success.

But it's surely no bad thing either for Barack Obama's street cred. After all, his main rival Hillary Clinton was pilloried for asking voters to help choose her official campaign anthem. Inspiring your own hit tribute song has to be far more cool.
