Obama now Democrat frontrunner

By John Sparks

Updated on 13 February 2008

Barack Obama establishes himself as the clear frontrunner for the Democratic nomination after winning three more primaries.

He was victorious in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, increasing his lead in pledged convention delegates to 1,223 delegates in 22 states.

Falling behind with 1,198 delegates in only 12 states, Hillary Clinton will have to win over 50 per cent of the remaining delegates if she is to secure the Democratic nomination.

But with the latest resignation of her deputy campaign manager, Michael Henry, yesterday, things aren't looking too good in the Clinton camp.
