Obama mixes lofty rhetoric with attacks on McCain in historic speech

Barack Obama officially became the first black presidential candidate in US history by accepting the Democrat nomination last night.

He told his audience and the millions watching on TV that 'enough was enough' and that America could be a better country after eight years of George W Bush - both economically and abroad.

But mixed with the lofty rhetoric, was a blast at his opponent's temperament - and claims that John McCain was out of touch with ordinary Americans struggling with rising food and fuel costs.
