No extra soldiers in Afghanistan

Carl Dinnen here again with what looks likely for Channel 4 News at 6.45pm this evening.
As the nation remembers its war dead the chief of the defence staff has said the British commitment in Afghanistan cannot be ramped up, even when operations in Iraq are wound down.
Despite the US President Elect, Barack Obama, saying he wants to increase overall troop levels in Afghanistan the CDS, Sir Jock Stirrup, says we're doing enough, we've been stretched for some time and we need a break.
He's been supported by the Foreign Secretary. At the heart of it this is about asking the other Nato nations to put more soldiers on the ground and allow them to do some of the hard work.
RUSSIAN SUBMARINERS SUFFOCATED
The Russian armed forces are in mourning for souls lost under the sea once again.
Twenty submariners have been killed in an accident on board a Russian sub. It seems they may have been killed by the accidental release of a fire-suppressant gas.
Despite Russia's recent wealth its military machine continues to creak dangerously.
