Mugabe feeling 'optimistic'
Updated on 27 June 2008
Robert Mugabe says he is feeling "optimistic" and "upbeat" as he voted in Zimbabwe's presidential election, Jonathan Rugman reports.
There's just the one candidate, few international monitors, and the result's already a foregone conclusion. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't appear that enthusiasm was shared by many others.
Reports from polling stations in Harare described the turnout as low, while the opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai branded the whole vote "an exercise in mass intimidation".
There's been condemnation too from the international community.
