Mixed report on Iraq progress

American papers are saying the report will highlight satisfactory progress in eight of the 18 benchmarks set out by Congress.

A report submitted to Congress has revealed reveals the Iraqi government has failled to fully meet a single political benchmark set by Congress - with only "satisfactory" progress on eight out of the 18 tests.

The Democrats condemned Mr Bush once again - and called on Republicans to join a rebellion against him.

The satisfactory outcomes include a decline in sectarian killings and greater cooperation between US troops and tribal leaders

But there has been unsatisfactory progress in the distribution of oil wealth, sectarian reconciliation and laws to disarm militias.
