He's fast turning into the leading Republican presidential election candidate, but just how popular is he?

The battle between John McCain and Mitt Romney for the republican presidential nomination turned fractious last night with the former Massachusetts governor accusing Senator McCain of using dirty tricks to win the Florida primary.

With John McCain due to receive the support of California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger later, the former Vietnam war hero is now the frontrunner.

But he's a candidate many of the party's establishment actively dislike.
