Exclusive pictures: Simon Mann pleads for clemency today in his last public opportunity to defend himself at his trial in Equatorial Guinea.

Again and again Mann claimed he was just a junior member of the team and named the Lebanese businessman Eli Calil as "very much the boss" of a plot to violently overthrow the government.

The trial in Malabo descended into farce when a power failure plunged the court into darkness and the judges were shown weapons allegedly intended for a more recent plan to topple the president. Some were so old they failed to fire at all.
