Israel: 60 years on

Updated on 06 May 2008

By Kylie Morris, Girish Juneja

More4 News takes a look at 60 years since the creation of the state of Israel.

More4 News is reporting all week from the Middle East where Israelis and Palestinians are preparing to mark 60 years since the world's most intractable conflict began.

A shared future?

For Israelis it was the birth of their brave and defiant nation - for Palestinians it was a "naqba", or catastrophe. This week and next sees the 60th anniversary of the events of 1948.

And there is one key question - as people in the region mark different visions of the past, can they ever see a shared future?

Girish Juneja reports on the human legacy of 1948.
