Irish vote on Lisbon treaty imminent
Updated on 26 September 2009
There is just a week to go before the Irish vote in their second referendum on the Lisbon treaty, which would extend the role of the European Union. Carl Dinnen has spent the week in Ireland.
The Irish rejected it last year, but the polls suggest a majority are in favour this time.
If they vote no, that could be the end of the treaty. If they vote yes, it is a headache for the Conservatives, who have said they may hold a referendum on the issue if they win the next election.
