'Iraqi-style tactics in Afghanistan'

By Nick Paton Walsh

Updated on 18 June 2008

The prime minister pays tribute to British forces in Afghanistan and says soldiers now face an insurgency using "Iraqi-style tactics".

Gordon Brown called them "the best troops in the world, fighting for the noblest of causes", while claiming the nature of the war there had changed.

Meanwhile, there has been news of four more deaths, including the first female soldier to be killed in action in Afghanistan. This brings the total number of British fatalities to 106, nine of them in the past 10 days.

The four were killed and a fifth seriously injured when an explosion hit their lightly armoured "Snatch" Land Rover in Lashkar Gah in Helmand Province.
