'Iraq: The Fallout' podcast

By Channel 4 News

Five years ago, the invasion of Iraq divided opinion across the world.

Many opposed military action. Others supported intervention, believing that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

None were ever found, but a lack of strategic planning led to anarchy that sucked the occupying armies into a guerrilla war, and Iraqis into bloody sectarian violence.

'Happy Birthday Iraq', a season of films by Channel 4 to mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion, includes a week of special reports presented by Jon Snow from the capitals of the region on Channel 4 News.

'Iraq: The Fallout' examines the impact and legacy of the war in the UK and the Middle East.

Channel 4 commissioned a poll to find out how Iraqis living the day to day reality of war are feeling five years on. Jon Snow broadcasts from Baghdad, Damascus and Amman.

Other teams report on issues such as the divisive exploration for oil in the Kurdish north of Iraq, and how Iraqis who took refuge in Syria react to what they find as they trickle back to their homeland.
