Iran test-fires missiles
Updated on 28 September 2009
Iran launches missiles tests ahead of a meeting in which its nuclear ambitions will once again be under scrutiny.
Iran's military said the missiles could reach any regional target. Last week, Tehran also revealed that it is building a second uranium enrichment plant.
These developments will be discussed on Thursday when Iranian officials will meet representatives of six major powers, including the United States, China and Russia, in Geneva, Switzerland
The US have suggested sanctions could be imposed against Iran, possibly in the banking and equipment sectors.
But Iran's Foreign Ministry said there was no link between the missile manoeuvres and the nuclear activities.
Television channel Press TV said the Shahab 3, a surface-to-surface missile with a range of up to 2,000 km (1,250 miles), was "successfully" test-fired.
Such a range would put Israel and U.S. bases in the region within striking distance.
Foreign Secretary David Miliband criticised the missile tests.
