Hillary retracts bravery boast

By Sarah Smith

Updated on 25 March 2008

Hillary Clinton has been forced into an embarrassing climb down after being caught out elaborating an anecdote on the campaign trail.

"I say a lot of things - millions of words a day - so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement," said Hillary Clinton as she apologised today.

More than once she's told how she landed under sniper fire on a visit to Bosnia as First Lady 12 years ago - and had to run with her head down to vehicles waiting on the tarmac.

But now video has emerged showing her calmly walking from the plane into a rather more peaceful scene, she's changed her story.
