Giuliani's presidential prospects in doubt

Updated on 09 November 2007

By Sarah Smith

Rudolph Giuliani's erstwhile ally Bernard Kerik has been indicted on corruption charges, potentially ruining the ex-mayor's chances of becoming Republican presidential candidate.

In the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York, he was often seen at the side of the Big Apple's mayor Rudolph Giuliani. Now Bernard Kerik - New York's former police commissioner and a favourite of President Bush - has been indicted on corruption charges, including fraud, obstructing the FBI and lying to the federal government.

A court case will be dramatic enough, but with Mr Giuliani hoping to become the Republican Presidential candidate, it's the damage this could do to his prospects that's having the most impact in America. Sarah Smith reports from New York.
