Gaza conflict entering 'final act'?

By Lindsey Hilsum

Updated on 16 January 2009

After twenty one days of fighting attempts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza are still at a stalemate.

There's been intense diplomatic activity in Washington and the Middle East and, despite continuing its bombardment, Israel said it hoped the conflict was 'entering its final act'.

The UN Secretary General said it was even time to think of a unilateral ceasefire by Israel.

Along with other news organisations Channel 4 News has been denied access to Gaza by the Israelis. But our International Editor Lindsey Hilsum has managed to obtain pictures from the Sheikh Redwan area of Gaza City. This is her report.

Inside Gaza

Despite Israel banning foreign journalists from Gaza our reporter Inigo Gilmore has managed to get into the territory from Egypt. He's reached the town of Rafah and spoke on the phone to Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
