France's first couple: flying visit

By Nicholas Glass

Updated on 25 March 2008

Fresh from a whirlwind romance with Carla Bruni, Nicolas Sarkozy's Windsor Castle stay will be one night instead of the usual three.

The French president, arriving in Britain for his first state visit tomorrow, appears to be a man in a hurry.

The agenda still includes a summit at the Arsenal football ground, talks on defence cooperation, and the usual state banquet at the largest table in the country, but throughout it all eyes will be as much on the president's new wife as on him.
