Updated on 03 December 2008
Tuesday 2 December 2008: talking about the economy with the National Governors Convention.
Obama addressed the National Governors Convention in Philadelphia where he acknowledged budget shortfalls across states.
He pledged support from the White House and invited suggestions for combating the economic crisis.
"We are not going to be hampered by ideology in trying to get this country back on track," he said. "We want to figure out what works."
In attendance were some of the president-elect's former adversaries, including Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin and the man who has now said he will work with the Obama administration, Californian Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Before the meeting began, Obama took time out to speak to a group of children who had gathered outside.
