Day 35: last Christmas Barney Cam
Updated on 17 December 2008
Tuesday 16 December 2008: announcing an education chief and Barney's last White House video.
Another day, another press conference, this time announcing Arne Duncan as Secretary of Education. The difference was the morning press conference was in a Chicago school.
Mr Duncan is the Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago schools system.
"In just seven years, he's boosted elementary test scores here in Chicago from 38 per cent of students meeting the standards to 67 per cent. The dropout rate has gone down every year he's been in charge. And on the ACT, the gains of Chicago students have been twice as big as those for students in the rest of the state," President-elect Obama said.
"In the next few years, the decisions we make about how to educate our children will shape our future for generations to come... and the results aren't just about test scores or statistics, but about whether our children are developing the skills they need to compete with any worker in the world for any job."
But there is still no announcement about what dog with Obama family will be taking to the White House.
The dog will have a hard act to follow, as George Bush's dog Barney releasing his last annual Christmas video from the White House. Fans of Barney and Miss Beasley can watch the latest production from Barney Cam here.
