Monday 24 November 2008: The Obama camp has officially announced key members of its economic team as it pledges "bold solutions to the economic crisis".

Timothy Geithner will be secretary of the Treasury and Lawrence Summers the director of the National Economic Council.

Christina Romer was named chair of the Council of Economic Advisors. Melody Barnes, who you can meet today on the Office of the President Elect blog, and Heather Higginbottom will serve as director and deputy director of the Domestic Policy Council.

The president-elect said: "Vice president-elect Biden and I have assembled an economic team with the vision and expertise to stabilize our economy, create jobs, and get America back on track.

"Even as we face great economic challenges, we know great opportunity is at hand. That's the mission our economic team will take on."

According to the Huffington Post, Obama is also expected to introduce Peter Orszag, currently congressional Budget Office director, as his director of the Office of Management and Budget - the White House office that serves as a funnel for federal agency budget requests.

The transition website oozes superlatives, informing us that "Words like 'brilliant', 'sharp', 'energetic' and 'visionary' are coming from across the political spectrum in praise for president-elect Barack Obama's choices to lead his economic team."
