Could racism undermine Barack Obama's leader status in the race for the White House?

For weeks now, Barack Obama has been consistently ahead of John McCain in the polls but his lead appears to be narrowing as 4 November approaches.

In the latest poll, the Democratic presidential candidate is four points ahead of his Republican rival. But is his lead exaggerated? And could his colour count against him?
