US athletes choose a man who fled the regime in Sudan to carry the stars and stripes at the Olympics opening ceremony.

This is despite Sudan being an important Chinese ally.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands have been cheering the Olympic torch through Beijing.

But foreign protesters raising the issue of Tibet have made a mockery of heavy security.
