Congress 'can't stop the surge'

Today represents yet another American mile stone in the War in Iraq.

The last was nine months ago when the Baker Hamilton Commission came out with conclusions that favoured diplomacy over military surges.

When Channel 4 News spoke to the former democrat congressman Lee Hamilton this morning, he said Congress can't muster the votes it needs to terminate the surge.

And as in Vietnam, a cloak of success will be constructed around it to enable America to start withdrawing from Iraq without losing face.
