Ciudad Juarez: city of lost girls

By Nick Martin

Updated on 11 January 2010

On Mexico's border with the US, Ciudad Juarez is the murder capital of the world. It is also a place where young girls go missing and never return. Nick Martin spent four days there, and this is his audio slideshow.

Over the course of this year more than 1,900 people have been murdered in the Mexican border town of Ciudad Juarez.

Two rival drug cartels are fighting a fierce turf war on the streets for the right to control a lucrative drugs route to America.

In the middle of this is an untold story of young girls going missing and never turning up. It's a mystery which is getting little coverage amid the murder and the bloodshed.

Channel 4 News correspondent Nick Martin spent four days in Juarez, the murder capital of the world, and took pictures as he searched for answers in the city of lost girls.
