The official death toll from the earthquake in China has risen to 40,000 - and that figure ignores provinces surrounding the epicentre. Carl Dinnen reports.

The rescue effort is continuing. One man was pulled alive from the rubble of a power plant destroyed after being buried alive for almost 180 hours.

And this comes amid fresh warnings of a further quake hitting the country in the coming days.
