China denies using force in Tibet

By James Blake

Updated on 17 March 2008

China denies using lethal force to deal with protests in Tibet - despite claims that more than 80 demonstrators have been killed.

Beijing said the violence was being orchestrated by followers of the Dalai Lama and was designed to wreck the Olympics in August.

China has set a midnight deadline for the protesters and is threatening to punish those who don't surrender.
