China quake: school safety checks
Updated on 11 June 2008
China orders nationwide school safety checks after last month's earthquake, in which thousands of children died when their schools collapsed.
In Jiandi, where 50 schoolchildren were crushed to death, parents' grief is turning to anger.
They say the school there was constructed on the cheap, and they are demanding answers from authorities.
The growing controversy over official negligence is eroding the wide public support Beijing enjoyed in the days after the earthquake.
