Most of the African children at the centre of an alleged abduction scandal in Chad are not "war orphans", says a report.

A joint report by two UN agencies and the Red Cross has found that 91 of the 103 children come from homes in Chad where at least one adult is considered a parent.

Six French charity workers have been charged with kidnapping for attempting to fly the children to Europe.

The charity said the youngsters were orphans from Sudan's war-torn Darfur region who had been found new homes and would have a better life.
