The former Archbishop of Canterbury appeals for the release of five Britons in Iraq. Andy Davies reports.
The foreign office prefers quiet diplomacy. But the former Archbishop of Canterbury has decided to appeal publicly to the kidnappers of five Britons in Iraq in the hope of securing their freedom.
Lord Carey has released a video in which he calls the hostage takers ''honourable men'' and ''men of faith''.
The kidnapped men, four guards and a computer consultant, were seized in Baghdad a year ago. Their case has not received extensive media coverage because of requests from the foreign office.
