Brown welcomed in China

By Gary Gibbon

Updated on 18 January 2008

Prime Minister Gordon Brown was greated in Beijing as "an old friend of the Chinese people".

Gordon Brown did everything he could to prove that he was a "friend" during his visit to China.

The Prime Minister said he wanted trade between Britain and China to double in the next two years, with tens of thousands of jobs created in this country for British workers.

Mr Brown raised the issue of human rights with his hosts, but was careful to ensure that they didn't dominate his visit.
