British woman killed Afghanistan

Updated on 18 June 2008

By Emily Reuben

Four British soldiers, including the first woman, are killed and a fifth severely wounded in Lashkar Gah, Helmand province, Emily Reuben reports.

It's the biggest single loss of life among British troops in Afghanistan for almost two years.

One of those who died was a member of the Intelligence Corps, the first British woman to be killed in action in Afghanistan.

The deaths came as Nato troops, led by Afghan and Canadian forces, launched a major operation to drive the Taliban out of villages in southern Afghanistan.
