Blogging about Burma

Updated on 27 September 2007

By Rags Martel

The pro-democracy protests happening in Burma have captured the attention of the world's media.

The tight controls on freedom of speech and the virtual impossibility of operating as a reporter in Burma has meant that getting out information about what's really going on on the ground has been difficult.

As the international press continue to follow the story, the internet has been one route that HAS been used by Burmese bloggers and websites giving their own view of the latest developments from within the country itself - despite the efforts of the military dictatorship to close down cybercafes and mobile phone networks.

Burmese blog sites

Below is a list of web pages in both English and Burmese, where you can view images and read comments about the demonstrations.

If you know of any other good sites, or you'd like to get in touch, send your picture messages to 0044 (0)7738 11 44 44, or email us here.
